Rollercoaster ride was the best description of today’s two final races of the RS:X World Championships in Kerteminde , Denmark with victory going to Poland ’s Piotr Myszka in the Men’s class and to Blancha Manchon from Spain in the Women. Despite the short medal race courses for the top 10 competitors, there were dramatic place changes in both fleets with the final podium positions fluctuating by the minute as each race progressed. Light shifting winds allowed just one shortened race to be held in both the Men and Women’s Gold fleets today at the RS:X World Championship in Kerteminde, Denmark, the competition watched by HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark.
Today’s results finalised the top 10 for the Men and Women’s medal races tomorrow and in the difficult conditions several sailors dropped out of the running. They included China’s Chen Qiubin in the Women’s fleet, and Greece’s Byron Kokalanis, Portugal’s João Filipe Gaspar Rodrigues and Maksim Oberemko from the Ukraine in the Men’s. Showing that experience pays in this class, so today veteran windsurfer and quadruple Olympic medallist Alessandra Sensini from Italy pulled into the lead at the RS:X World Championships, being held at Kerteminde, Denmark. Early lead for Poland after light start to RS:X Worlds in Denmark
A shallow, slow moving depression crossing western Scandinavia, made for a challenging opening day at the RS:X World Championships in Kerteminde, Denmark. While one race was sailed for the Men’s Yellow fleet in the morning, everyone was then returned to shore and it wasn’t until mid-afternoon after a rain squall had passed through, that racing could continue.
